West Coast Wine Country Adventures

At first glance I’d say because a good wine is almost a spiritual experience for me.  I am always amazed that such a seemingly simple creation can spark so much interest in my mind and body. When I think more about it, I think it’s because learning more about wine has taught me something about myself and subtly shifted my perspective. Wine tasting teaches you to be present in a moment by focusing the taste. This can easily translate to learning to be present in more moments of your life. Wine tasting often takes place in some of the most awe inspiring vistas this planet can offer. Your soul can’t help but feel nurtured by all the natural beauty as long as you allow yourself to be present and enjoy it.

Wine  makes you appreciate the wonderful gustatory options we have today as human beings on this planet. I’m grateful for how much I and my loved ones have in this world. How can you not be  grateful when you taste an amazing wine and food pairing? Wine has taught me to pay attention to my food. However, I ‘m never going to be a vegetarian, I mean the cow will die eventually right?  I do try to go out of my way to purchase meat that has been raised responsibly, not only for ethical reasons, but heck, it just tastes better with that pricey wine I’ve been saving. Wine has made me more interested in promoting sustainable farming, not just in the vineyard, but for all our grown food. The food that comes from these farms can be grown in a way that capitalizes on the cyclical nature of our ecosystems and practically speaking, it will, as an added benefit, have  more nutrients and less fat for the consumer.

Lastly, wine teaches you to appreciate the cycle of things. The vine flowers.  Flowers turn into fruit that ripens for harvest, people then take care of the fruit and coax it along into wine, and then it blooms and matures. I think in the end I love wine simply because it is a reflection of the inherent cyclical nature of our lives.
